Research activities within EPIC span all fields of observational epidemiology. As EPIC is the largest prospective cohort worldwide, with more than 521 000 research participants followed for almost 15 years, it is possible to study both common and rare end-points. Major research fields include nutritional epidemiology using biomarker analysis and questionnaire information, as well as genetic and lifestyle investigations.
A few selected research highlights from EPIC are summarized below. These studies demonstrate the diversity of research conducted within EPIC and its importance in informing the public and policy-makers of priorities for cancer prevention.
