This sub-cohort of EPIC includes
all participants who were over 60 years of age at recruitment and is looking
at the role of diet on the longevity of elderly Europeans.
The first phase of this project set
out to develop a common classification scheme for non-dietary exposure data
to serve the purposes of the study and to estimate
energy and selected nutrient intake. The development of a databank with comparable
nutritional, medical and socio-economic information on Europeans >
60 years of age is underway.
Preliminary statistical analyses
are currently being conducted on the Greek EPIC data to ascertain strengths
and limitations of the methodological tools before using them in identifying
dietary patterns within the EPIC-Elderly cohort.
